Contract Summary:

The design and construct works comprised construction of new steel framed waste transfer and vehicle maintenance buildings with associated reinforced concrete foundation slabs and perimeter push walls on adjoining sites to accommodate 3 waste treatment centres relocated from the Olympic Park.

The fast track works involved extensive remediation measures to process existing made ground incorporating various contaminated material and fly tipped materials plus the extensive removal of Japanese Knotweed.

The remediation works were carried out concurrently with widespread ground improvement works prior to the construction of the buildings using traditional pad footing and ground beams.

Key Processes:

The main elements of the work included the following:

• Remediation of made ground

• Geotechnical improvement of underlying alluvial clays

• Construction of reinforced concrete foundations, push walls, retaining walls and weighbridge foundations

• Fibre concrete hardstandings and paved areas

• Drainage, pump stations and Interceptor facility

• Storm and foul water services and outfalls

• Service supplies and connections

• Infrastructure kerbing, paving, lighting and signage

• Coordinating the construction of the steel frame buildings
